weekend round up – 24th July 2011 #F1 #NASCAR #IndyCar

Having changed things around with our social media activity at the start of the month, and launching a Twitter account dedicated to this blog plus a link to a general motoring blog, we decided to stop the weekend round ups and just tweet pages from Autosport and other sources. However, several readers have asked where the roundups had gone and many thanks to those for their interest, especially the one who asked if Trucker Tog and I were still OK.

So we’re back, and here goes.

#F1. Well the Lewis of old is back and very welcome he is. A truly dominant win – the finish may have been close, but it was never really in doubt from the first corner. Lewis was on a mission and wasn’t going to let anyone by. Not sure who the Seb imposter was though.

#IndyCar. Over in Edmonton there was another return to form as the Toowoomba Kid was back in town after a couple of dnfs. We are rooting for him to take the title this year. He really should have nailed it in 2010, but maybe coming from behind will be the spur this time round.

#NASCAR – the big boys had a weekend off, so no Sprint Cup action, but we will be back on the trail next week at Indy no less for the Brickyard 400.

TT or I will be back next week, and we are also trying to catch up on some of the promised Setting the Record Straighrt posts – not enough hours in the day at the moment.

weekend round up – 10th July 2011 #F1 #NASCAR #Indycar

#F1 – So Alfonso pulls one off for the Prancing Horse with you know who second. Was it a great race? I missed it; just saw the first lap and JB’s botched pit stop, so make up your own minds. One thought on the new Silverstone; why have they put the pits in a trench? I mean we all know that they’re called the pits because they used to be holes in the ground, but, whilst I love retro stuff, isn’t that all a bit silly?

#NASCAR – At least the crowds apparently got in and out of the British GP without too much trouble, but Kentucky? All sorts of trouble apparently. And those that did get in had to watch the younger Ugly Brother win and then spend hours getting out again. Not a good result for any of my boys other than a good second for Rootie.

#IndyCar – Dario shoves WP off and out to take the win in Toronto. Naughty, naughty, but he got away with it and stretches his title lead.

weekend round up – 26th june 2011

#F1 – well the F1 boys seemed to have some sort of a parade down by the docks in Spain. Probably too hot for a proper race. Pretty much the usual finishing order through so I don’t suppose too many people noticed the difference.

#NASCAR – Way over at Sears Point the Ugly Brothers managed all the 1s with Big Ugky 1st and Little Ugly 11th. Jeff Gordon (somehow calling him The Kid these days doesn’t sound right) picked up a good second to further his good year and The Digger got 5th on a track that he usually goes well on.

#IndyCar – Marco picked up win number two almost 5 years after his first one. WP failed to finish so Dario goes back to the points lead.

weekend round up – 19th June 2011 #NASCAR, #DTM, #Indycar

#NASCAR – So Hamlin remembers how to win in the #11 car and takes Michigan. Another bad day for the#48 and a three spot drop in the standings. JGR in the wars though, as they await news of NASCAR’s reaction to the unapproved oil pans found on all of their cars at the start of the weekend.

#DTM – Martin Tomczyk again for Audi at Lausitz and he takes over the points lead. Good strategy helped him, as it did Timo Scheider for second spot, on a day when others just got it wrong. Ralphie quick in the mid race period and the fastest one out there, but unable to translate that into a good result. Poor Susie never made it off the grid.

#Indycar – Dario wins on the Milwaukee Mile and WP comes in 4th from well down the grip, so they share the points lead as they head out of town. Good to see the series back at the Wisconsin track.

weekend roundup – 12 June 2011

#lemans – Good action at The Sarthe with Audi holding off Peugeot by not very much after what was almost a 24 hour grand prix. Nice to know that Mac and Rocky are OK after two massive shunts. Pleanty of hard luck stories as always, but a classic race with the result uncertain right up until the flag dropped.

In my opinion Anthony Davidson wasn’t blocking the lead Audi late in the race. He was leaving the door wide open at the chicanes and gave the Audi every chance to get by, he just didn’t back off and let him through. All pretty fair in my book.

#indycar – our favourite Will Power finally got an oval win in the second of the twin races in Texas, so that’s a monkey off his back. Even if he was favoured by the lottery for grid positions, it’s his name on the record book and he can maybe win a few more now that first one is behind him. WP is now 21 points clear at the top of the table having extended his lead by 5 after the Texas Twins. As to the method of drawing the grid for the second race by lots, it may be good for the spectacle, but it is no way to operate a professional race at this sort of level.

#f1 – The Canadian GP gave usa fantastic race with Jensen Button coming from last to first despite six trips to the pit lane. Another gritty drive from Webbo saw him salvage third after a hard day at the office and Schumi doing well coming in fourth right up Webbo’s exhaust pipes.

We also got another edition of Lewis in the Wars. He just seems to be in a place where he just can’t do right at the moment. but he can turn that round.

#nascar – meanwhile over in the Poconos on that unique flat tri-oval the return to shifting gears brought transmission problems to some. Jeff Gordon beat off the Ugly Brothers to tie third on the all time winner’s list with Bobby Allison and Darrell Waltrip on 84 visits to Victory Lane. A good run for JPM saw him lead a fair bit before losing third gear and fading to seventh. Not a good day for championship front runner Edwards with a dud engine dropping him right down the order.
