Weekend round up – 29th April 2012 #IndyCar #DTM #NASCAR

On quite a good weekend for fans of tin top motor racing we saw the #BTCC boys in action at Thruxton and the #WTCC in Slovakia, plus the new look #DTM getting under way at Hockenheim as well as the usual #NASCAR fare from Ricmond. #IndyCar and #F2 also provided action for the single seater fans, so here we go with this week’s round up:

#IndyCar saw the teams having one of their overseas rounds down on the streets in Sao Paulo, but it was not a great day for the locals in qualifying and only Helio managed anything decent in the race with 4th. Will Power took pole and won his third in a row and Takuma Sato picked up his first podium in IndyCar with a good third.

Power takes over the series lead from #Penske team mate Helio.

We still don’t like the look of the cars, and have decided they look like hotted up ride on lawn mowers.

#NASCAR from Richmond saw a double for the Ugly Brothers, with Ugly Snr winning in Jnr’s car in the Nationwide series and then Ugly Jnr himself pulling off the win on Saturday night after winning a late restart tussle with the other Jnr. The #MWR boys did well again with Mark Martin on pole and 2 cars in the top ten once more, Smoke got third after leading over 100 laps, and Carl Edwards was fuming after also leading a bunch of laps and looking on for a good finish, but getting penalised for a jumped restart on the penultimate caution after some confusion over whether or not he should have been shown as the leader.

In the debate on races having fewer cautions, we are firmly in favour of that and don’t see people who like a lot of caution periods, especially late in the events, as being true fans. Racing is about racing for the whole race, not a series of sprints.

#DTM got under way at Hockenheim with BMW showing well in practice on their return to the series. In the race it was a UK double with Gary Paffett and Jamie Green providing Mercedes with a one –two. Andy Priaulx was best BMW in 6th.

The #BTCC saw two wins for Honda and one for Ford, whilst SEAT picked up a win in the #WTCC in race one at the Slovakia Ring before #Chevrolet restored nromal service in race two. All the results feature in links from our Tweets yesterday.
