Weekend round up – 13th May 2012 #NASCAR #F1 #Indycar

This weekend saw the NASCAR teams at one of its classic venues, Darlington, for the Southern 500 under the lights and the F1 teams were at the Barcelona circuit not too far from some of Spain’s historic tracks (think Sitges and Pedralbes) and both races saw a comeback win for teams with a pedigree of race and title wins.

Meanwhile the month of May saw more action at Indy as we ramp up for the 500, another race with a bit of a pedigree.

#NASCAR at the Lady in Black gave a comeback win to the #48 team with Jimmie Johnson finally giving Hendrick Motorsports their 200th win in Cup competition. Greg Biffle came away with his championship lead reduced, but he’s still the man at the top. Ugly Brother Snr lost his rag again and got himself fined and put on probation.

#F1 saw yet another winner as Pastor Maldonado took a fine maiden win and gace the Williams boy something to smile about as they celebrated Sir Frank’s 70th birthday. In doing so he sent the home fans home looking sad as he had beaten local hero Fernando into second. Alonso had led off the line, but the Williams re-took the lead having done better in the pits combined with blistering in and out laps from the Venezuelan.

Celebrations post race were cut short with a devastating flash fire in the Williams garage, but prompt action from their crew and their neighbours saw the fire out with 9 casualties, most of whom were quickly released from hospital.

#Indycar saw the rookie tests under way and a good number of cars working on set ups with the new style cars. Too early for anything meaningful in terms of times, but we have plenty to keep the fans happy as the annual carnival plays out.

PS: Apologies for this post appearing late – we managed to schdule it for next year somehow. Must have been too exited by Pastor’s win!
